"Operators could provide the backbone for today’s AI economy to reignite growth"
McKinsey, 2025
Demand for GenAI and agentic AI is creating a wave of opportunity for telcos. By 2030, data-centre demand is expected to triple (McKinsey, 2025). The decades of investment you’ve made in your network is now a golden opportunity to become the nervous system of the AI economy.
However, the question is “how do you monetise the opportunity best?”
So far, very few have been decisive - only 20% of telco AI initiatives target external revenue (GSMA, 2025). And only 2% are rolling out sovereign AI infrastructure (NVIDIA, 2025). Meanwhile, hyperscalers are executing $300bn of capex (McKinsey, 2025). There’s a danger of moving too slow and missing out. Or too fast and missing the mark.
With opportunity and uncertainty accelerating in tandem, what’s your next move to stay in the game - and not just feed the next wave of winners?

1
Data centre demand will triple by 2030
(McKinsey 2025)
2
Only 10–20% of telco AI initiatives target new external revenue today
(GSMA 2025)
